Under Donald Trump and his administration, the United States is turning its back on the rule of law more and more. When an armed paramilitary ICE fighter shot an unarmed, friendly demonstrator, Vice President J.D. Vance immediately blamed the woman and said the perpetrator was essentially only defending himself. The FBI has taken over the investigation, thereby excluding the city and state where the crime occurred. This whole process mocks the rule of law that the USA was previously considered to uphold.
Donald Trump and his administration are ignoring not only international law, as has been amply demonstrated, but also national law. Under Donald Trump, the US has effectively abandoned democracy. It seems that the Senate and Congress, government departments, and above all the judiciary continue to function properly—but only as long as they do not interfere with Trump's interests.
Democracy in the US has degenerated into a Potemkin village.
